Optical nodes and receivers
HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) network is an architecture used by cable operators. An optical node is a device which converts optical signals into RF signals distributed in coaxial cable networks.
Modern optical nodes are devices which can transmit signals in the forward (towards subscribers) and return (from subscribers towards a headend) paths. Thus, it is possible to provide Triple Play (TV, Internet and telephony) services in HFC networks. Currently the networks are being segmentated and the optical infrastructure is being developed to obtain Fiber Deep technology. These solutions can increase network throughput and cause the dynamic increase of the optical node number in the HFC network.
